Kin-dza-dza! (1986, Soviet Union)

Directed by Georgiy Daneliya

Russian with English subtitles, 135 min.

A very low-budget sci-fi fantasy from Russia, this tells the tale of two hapless pedestrians who accidentally get sent to another world and try to make their way back while trying to survive the severe and absurd class system of another planet. Amongst other things in this absurdly hilarious world, people are defined by a colorful gadget, yellow pants and flashing light head-gear and the lowly must perform terrible musical numbers in cages. Matches are worth their weight in gold, and the vocabulary consists of about 10 words, with ‘Kuh’ covering everything else. Endlessly inventive and guaranteed to satisfy silly cult movie fans. (

Screening at Zrinyi 14, room 412.

Friday May 23, 6:30 P.M. Attention, change of time!!!
